Learning about Adobe Photoshop CS5.1

Learning about Adobe Photoshop CS5.1

1.      Move Tool (V) – use this tool to move things. Usually you use it to move a Layer around after it has been placed. Hold the [Shift] key to limit the movements to vertical or horizontal.
2.      Rectangular Marquee Tool (M) – use this tool to make selections on your image in a rectangular or square shape. You can therefore move the shape around in order to place it in the order or your choice. Holding the [Shift] key while dragging your selection, restricts the shape to a perfect square. Holding the [Alt] key while dragging sets the center of the rectangle to where your cursor started.
3.      Lasso Tool (L) – Use this to select images in any shape you like edit it or crop it. To close the selection, either click on the beginning point (you’ll see the cursor change when you’re on it), or just double-click. When holding the [Ctrl] key, you’ll see the cursor change, and the next time you click, it will close your selection.
4.      Quick Selection Tool (W) – It is related to pen tool. You can select any shape or object easily.
5.      Crop Tool (C) - The difference is when you press the [Enter/Return] key, it crops your image to the size of the box. Any information that was on the outside of the box is now gone. Not permanently, you can still undo.
6.      Eyedropper Tool (I) - This tool works by changing your foreground color to whatever color you click on. Holding the [Alt] key will change your background color.
7.      Spot Healing Brush Tool (J) – It is a mildy advanced tool which is used to repair scratches and specs in order to perfect the image to make it look even better. You choose your cursor size, then holding the [Alt] key, you select a nice/clean area of your image. Let go of the [Alt] key and paint over the bad area. It basically copies the info from the first area to the second, in the form of the Brush tool. Only, at the end, it averages the information, so it blends.
8.      Brush Tool (B) – It is the basic tool that Photoshop was once based on. It is pretty simple. It paints one your image, in whatever color you have selected, and whatever size you have selected.
9.      Clone Stamp Tool (S) – This is very similar to Healing Brush Tool except it doesn’t blend colours at the end of the process.
10.  History Brush Tool (Y) – This tool is just like the Brush Tool except the information that it paints with it is from the original state of your image.

Investigation

a)      What is a Collage?
A collage is a collection of pictures been put together to form another picture, sculpture or painting.
b)      What are they used for?
A collage is used to create sculptures or another picture that sends a message across depending on the topic at hand to specific audience.
c)      What do they look like?
They sometimes look neat when shaping the pictures into another object like the main subjects in the pictures that is created to make the collage. At times, collages look a little messy but that’s the point! It expresses ones good side as well as bad. And when expressing ones good side or a happy topic, it should be fun and look effortless.
d)     How can you effectively portray the underlying theme of the environmental element or any other theme to an audience?
Well when trying to send a message out through pictures, you should use pictures that are related to the topic so that people understand it. Then by adding text and shaping the picture to the main topic or theme, the “social” message is sent more clearly and the audience understands more.
e)      How is a collage useful?
A collage is useful when portraying a theme to a specific audience, it is an organized scrapbook for a person and is a great way of sharing moments as well as important events with different audiences.
4) Bibliography – I got my answers with the help of my parents, family friends as well as the Internet in order to check for factual information.

5) Evaluation of Sources – My sources are listed below:
·         Parents
·         Family Friends
·         http://yourhead.com/collage/ ( a good resource as software)
I think that my resources are reliable because for my parents and family friends, I trust them because they are older and some work in the design and marketing industries making it easy for them to help. As for the Internet sources, they are updated and have good information with appropriate vocabulary therefore using them.

Reflection on Divergent Collage

My Collage was a good practice for me to practice using Adobe Photoshop CS5.2
It was challenging yet fun to find different pictures. I loved choosing and editing pictures from my favorite book because are so very true and are very wise.

Photoshop Collage Reflection

My topic, which is quotes from the best time sellers books, on the area of interaction my topic relates to readers with the love of adventure, reality, love and revolutions. The books i choose give meaning to the readers, they show what reality is and they show how you overcome it. They show struggles and they show bravery in which alot of us lack in. It gives up hope and encouragement for a better world, reminding us how to act towards a situation which we do not approve, and it shows us that with unity and hope we can conquer anything.
